This short course gives you the lay of the land — how FRELIP’s portal, discovery search, research guides, journal feeds, and learning platform connect into one free service for finding, understanding, and using knowledge.

It is the best place to start if you’re new to FRELIP and want to know which tool to reach for, and when.

What you’ll be able to do

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • describe what the FRELIP portal connects;
  • use discovery search to find resources;
  • use research guides to start a subject;
  • follow journal feeds to stay current;
  • navigate the learning platform and its courses;

The lessons

  1. The FRELIP Main Portal — the front door that ties everything together.
  2. Discovery Search (VuFind) — the tool for finding books and articles.
  3. Research Guides (SubjectsPlus) — expert starting points by subject.
  4. OA Journal Feeds — the latest open-access research, gathered.
  5. Learning Platform (Moodle) — free courses, including the full catalogue.

How to study this course

Work through the lessons in order — each is a short read with a worked example, a quick exercise, and a hand-picked free resource. Use the Previous and Next buttons at the foot of each page to move along. There are no fees and no enrolment barriers; the course is open to everyone, and you can revisit it any time.

Tip
Don’t just read — do. The two-minute “Try this” exercise in each lesson is where the skill actually sticks.
